Picton New Zealand is a friendly, picturesque town and is the
gateway to the South Island of New Zealand and the arrival and
departure point for inter island ferries.
Picton is the ideal place to base yourself if exploring the wine region
of Marlborough, the Marlborough Sounds and
Queen Charlotte
Track as the town is conveniently right in the heart of the action.
Getting Around Picton. There is also a great variety of activities
based in Picton to keep you and the family busy for days. Water taxi's,
mail boat cruises, Sea Kayaking and eco-tours of the Marlborough
Sounds depart from the town wharf located on the foreshore to the
right of the harbour. Just look for the red
Beachcomber Cruises
booking office on the waters edge.
Picton Foreshore. There is an attractive park between downtown
Picton and the foreshore with a museum, playground, model train
rides, mini golf, cinema and aquarium, all centered around the
beautiful backdrop of the Queen Charlotte Sound. The Edwin Fox is
also located in this vicinity and is believed to be the ninth oldest ship
in the world!
Follow the foreshore around and you will find the Interisland Ferry
terminal and rental car company offices.
Picton Rental Car for the
best deals.
Planning Ahead. Picton gets very busy between October and April
with over one million people passing through each year and it is
highly recommended to book
accommodation in Picton, rental cars
and
Interisland ferry tickets in advance to avoid disappointment and
delays.
There is a lot more to Picton than meets the eye so take some time to
explore this beautiful and relaxing part of new Zealand.
