Accommodation in Havelock South Island New Zealand
Havelock is a small town situated at the edge of Pelorus Sound half way between
Blenheim and Nelson at the top of the South lsland in New Zealand. The Pelorus
sound is the largest sound to make up the Marlborough Sounds and is one of the
best areas for green lipped mussels. There are many mussel farms in this sound and
is the main industry for Havelock. If you are staying in Havelock or just passing
through then a visit to one of the local restaurants for a plate of mussels is highly
recommended.
Havelock has a variety of accommodation ranging from camping grounds to
backpacker hostels to motels and upmarket bed and breakfasts. It is an ideal place to
base yourself if you are exploring the eastern area of the Marlborough Sounds such
as French Pass and Durville Island.
There are also a number of arts and crafts shops in Havelock displaying work from
local artists. The emphasis is on local designs using a contemporary range of locally
sourced material such as mussel and Paua shell.
Havelock is 70km west of Picton and 76km east of Nelson.
